Mentor Wisdom: "The reason I've been able to be so financially successful is my focus has never, ever for one minute been money.” - Oprah Winfrey
Mentor Lesson: Money follows value not desperation
Money is like a cat. The harder you chase it, the faster it runs away from you.
Oprah figured this out decades ago.
The richest woman in media history wasn't focused on money.
Oprah was obsessed with something else entirely. She was laser focused on serving her audience.
Every decision she made came down to one question: "Will this help my viewers live better lives?"
When she turned down massive advertising deals that didn't align with her values, her team probably thought she was crazy.
When she gave away cars to her entire audience, the accountants likely had heart attacks.
But every single time she chose service over short term cash, something magical happened. The money followed anyway. In bigger amounts than she ever could have imagined.
This backwards approach shows up everywhere you look.
Jeff Bezos spent years losing money because he was obsessed with customer experience. Walt Disney went broke multiple times because he cared more about creating magic than making profits.
The pattern is crystal clear.
Focus on money first, and you'll struggle. Focus on solving problems and creating value, and money becomes the natural result.
It's like trying to fall asleep. The harder you try, the more awake you stay. But focus on relaxing your body instead, and sleep just happens.
As promised, wisdom in under a minute.
Talk soon,
-Chris
